**Pert1
>On the first day of school, Victor Rodriguez decided he would take French.
>学校の最初の日には、ビクターロドリゲスはフランス語を取ることを決めた。
>He already spoke Spanish and English, but he thought some day he might travel to France, which seemed to be cooler than his hometown, Fresno.
>彼はすでにスペイン語と英語を話したが、彼はいつの日か自分の地元のフレスノより涼しいフランスに旅行するかもしれないと考えました。
>Besides, he knew Teresa would take French, too.

>He had like her since they were together in religion class the year before.

>On the way to his homeroom, Victor ran into his friend Michael.

>"What classes are you going to take?" Michael asked.

>"French. How about you?"

>"Spanish. I'm not so good at it, even though I'm Mexican."

>"I'm not either, but I'm better at it then math," Victor said.
>「私もそうだけど、数学よりスペイン語はマシ。」ビクターは言った。
>Victor sat calmly in his homeroom.
>ビクターは教室で冷静に座った。
>He found Teresa sitting two rows away.
>彼はテレサが2列離れて座っているのを見つけた。
>"This is going to be my lucky year.
>「これは幸運な年になるだろう。
>She is in my homeroom and will probably be in my English and math classes.
>彼女が教室にいれば、おそらく英語と数学の授業にもいるでしょう。
>And, of course, French," he thought.

>Victor's first period was English.
>ビクターの1限は英語だった。
>Unfortunately, Teresa was not in the class.
>不運にも、テレサは授業にいなかった。
>"What is a noun?" Mr. Lucas asked.
>「何が名詞ですか？」ルーカス先生は尋ねた。
>"A person, place, or thing," said the class in unison.
>「人、場所、物」クラスがいっせいに声をそろえて言った。
>"Yes, now somebody give me an example of a person - you, Victor Rodriguez."
>「そう、今誰か私に人の例を教えてください。 --ビクターロドリゲス。」
>"Teresa," victor said automatically.
>「テレサ」ビクターは思わず言った。
>It was the name of the girl who he always thought about.
>それは、彼がいつも考えている少女の名前だった。
>Some of the girls giggled.
>一部の少女たちがくすくす笑った。
>They knew he had a crush on Teresa.
>彼らは彼がテレサに夢中なっていることを知っていた。
>"Correct," Mr. Lucas said.
>「正解」ルーカス先生が言った。
>"Give me an example of a place."
>「私に場所の例を教えてください。」
>Mr. Lucas called on another student, who wickedly answered,"Teresa's house."
>ルーカス先生は別の生徒にたずねました。その生徒は意地悪をして「テレサの家」と答えました。
>Everybody laughed.
>みんなが笑った。
>After English, Victor had math, which was his weakest subject.
>英語の後、彼のもっとも弱い教科である数学になった。。
>He sat in the back by the window, hoping he would not be called on.
>彼は窓際の後ろに座り、指名されないことを望んだ。
>He daydreamed about taking Teresa to a movie.
>彼はテレサを映画へ連れて行く空想にふけった。

>After lunch, the bell sounded for the afternoon classes.
>昼飯後、午後の授業の鐘が鳴った。
>"French at last!" Victor thought.
>「最後にフランス語！」ビクターは考えた。
>He sat near the front of the classroom, a few desks away from Teresa.
>彼はテレサから2,3デスク離れた教室の正面の近くに座った。
>Mr. Bueller faced the blackboard, on which he wrote some French words.
>ビューラー先生黒板と向き合い、フランス語をいくつか書いた。
>He turned to the class and said, "Bonjour." "Bonjour," said a few students.
>彼は教室を向き、言った「ボンジュール。」「ボンジュール」2,3人の生徒が言った。
>Then Mr. Bueller asked if anyone knew French.
>誰かフランス語を知っているかどうか、ビューラー先生はたずねました。
>Victor raised his hand, wanting to impress Teresa.
>テレサに印象付けたいと思いながら、ビクターは手を上げました。
>The teacher smiled and said, "Tres bien. Parlez-vous francais?"
>先生は笑って、言いました。「〜〜〜？」
>Victor didn't know what to say.
>ビクターはなんと言えばいいか分からなかった。
>The room grew silent.
>教室が静かになった。
>Victor felt all eyes staring at him.
>ビクターは全員の目が彼に見つめられているのを感じた。
>Pretending that he knew his way out of the crisis,
>Victor uncertainly said something that sounded like French.
>彼は危機を抜け出す方法知っているふりをしながら、
>ビクターはあやふやにフランス語のように聞こえる物を言った。
>Mr. Bueller, wrinkling his face in curiosity, asked him to repeat.
>ビューラー先生は好奇心で顔にしわを寄せながら、彼に繰り返すように頼んだ。
>Victor just mumbled.
>ビクターはぶつぶつ言った。
>Big roses of red flowered on Victor's face.
>赤い大きなバラがビクターの顔にできた。
>A river of sweat ran down his palms.
>汗の河が彼の手のひらを走った。
>He felt terrible.
>彼はひどく感じた。
>Teresa must have thought he was a fool.
>テレサは彼が愚か者だと思ったに違いない。
**Pert4
>The bell sounded again and Victor shot out of the room.
>再び鐘が鳴り、ビクターは教室から飛び出した。
>But he had to return for his math book, which he had left in the room.
>しかし彼は教室に置いてきてしまった自分の教科書のため戻った。
>He looked sheepishly at the teacher, who was erasing the blackboard.
>彼はきまり悪そうに黒板を消している先生を見た。
>Then Victor widened his eyes in terror at Teresa, who stood in front of him.
>そのときビクターは自分の前に立ったテレサをおそるおそる目を開いた。
>"I didn't know you knew French." she said.
>「私はあなたがフランス語を知っていることを知らなかった。」彼女は言った。
>"That was good."
>「あれは良かった。」
>Mr. Bueller looked at Victor, and Victor looked back.
>ビューラー先生はビクターを見て、ビクターは振り返りました。
>"Oh please, don't say anything,"
>「おねがい、何も言わないで」
>Victor pleaded with his eyes,
>ビクターは目で懇願しながら、
>"I'll wash your car, mow your lawn, walk your dog - anything!
>「あなたの車を洗います、芝を刈ります。犬を散歩します。なんでもします！
>I'll be your best student."
>あなたの一番の生徒になります。
>Mr. Bueller, recalling his own boyhood, just smiled.
>ビューラー先生は少年時代を思い出しながら、笑った。
>Teresa asked victor if he would help her with her French.
>テレサはビクターに彼女のフランス語を手伝ってくれるかたずねた。
>"Sure, anytime,"Victor said.
>「はい、いつでも」ビクターは言った。
>"I won't be bothering you, will I?"
>「あなたのお邪魔にはならないですか？」
>"Oh no, I like being bothered."
>「とんでもない、私は邪魔されるのが好きだ。」
>"Bojour," Teresa said, leaving him outside her next class.
>「ボンジュール」テレサは彼を彼女の次のクラスの外に置いてきながら言った。
>The roses of shame on his face became bouquets of love.
>彼の顔の恥のバラは愛の花束になった。
>"Teresa is a great girl," he thought, "and Mr. Bueller is good, too."
>「テレサはすごい少女だ。」彼は思った。「そしてビューラー先生もとてもいい人だ。」
>He was going to like this school year.
>彼は学年が好きになりそうであった。
