課題の分量は総会ため少なめにし、難易度も平均以下だったと思いますが、それでも何箇所かに疑問点が残りました。区切り（一）から<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">(</font>四<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">)</font>までの問題点。</p>
<p lang="ja-JP" style="margin-bottom: 0cm">（１）バンド名の<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">Radiohead's</font>
は、レディオヘッドより、真鍋さんの訳語のように英語の発音通りにレディオヘッズが<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">better</font> かなと思います。<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">thumbing my Blackberry for
e-mails</font>。車を猛スピードで走らせていたので、多分メールの受信を親指で携帯を操作しながらチェックしていたのでしょう。送信は多分無理でしょうね。<font face="Times New Roman, serif">vice
president</font>の訳語がむずかしいですね。なぜならアメリカでは、石をなげれば<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">vice president</font>
にあたると云うくら大企業の社内には大勢います。一般的に副社長なら、<font face="Times New Roman, serif">executive
vice president</font> です。奥村さんや金田さんの地域統括責任者、地区副責任者あたりですかね。<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">jump ship to Sony</font>
これは、単に転職でいいのでは。自分の会社の経営が危なくなり逃げ出すという含みも時にあります。<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">Longman</font> では、転職の意味と（船員が<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">)</font>船から逃げ出すとあります。英次郎では、倒産する前に会社を逃げ出す、競合会社に転職すると出ています。<font face="Times New Roman, serif">He
was recruited into Sony</font>と云えます。彼の能力を請われて引き抜かれた場合ですが。 <font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">Most of the e-mails were blowback from the departure
of our divisional vice president, Crawford.
blowback</font>が難しい。クロフォードの離職から、会社の経営が危ないのではというデマが逆流してきたという意味ですかね。仁保さんの訳のように、メールの大半は、最近ソニーに転職したクロフォードの流した偽情報が逆流してきたものだった、が正解かもしれません。英二郎では、<font face="Times New Roman, serif">CIA</font>用語で、外交政策が原因で自国にもたらされる予期できな負の結果、が出ています。それで、ぼくは、クロフォードの離職から生じた負の置き土産と訳したのですが。</p>
<p lang="ja-JP" style="margin-bottom: 0cm">（２）<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">Canadian Mountie hats</font>
は、仁保さん訳のカナダ騎馬警官隊の帽子ですね。奥村さんの、カナダ王室騎馬警官帽も正解。<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">I couldn't believe anyone learning to drive</font>
<font face="Times New Roman, serif">back then could see . . . back then</font>
は、仁保さん、真鍋さん、井本の訳の当時ですね。<font face="Times New Roman, serif">drive
back</font>と読み違えた方もいました。</p>
<p lang="ja-JP" style="margin-bottom: 0cm">（３）ほとんど問題点なし。<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">pull up</font>は、車が止まる、横付けになるという意味です。</p>
<p lang="ja-JP" style="margin-bottom: 0cm">（４）”<font face=

わたしが携帯を持たなければ（こんな不注意事故も起こさずに）生き延びられようなことを云った、と思ったのですが。<font face=

は、仮定法で、携帯を持たなければ生き延びられると解釈したのですが。携帯なしでも生きていける、と解釈された方が多かった。実際、仕事をしていれば、携帯は必需品で何時でも身元に置かねば仕事になりません<font face="Times New Roman, serif">(</font>仕事で生きいけません）。携帯を持つと、いつ事故にあい命を失うかもしれません。自分が気をつけても、対向車のドライバーが携帯を運転中にかけていれば、衝突で命を失う危険が何時もあります。一番の問題点は以下でした。</p>

の意味が難しい。庭の芝を刈って車をみつけるような田舎ものだ<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">(</font>仁保さん訳）仁保さんから<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">redneck</font>
のジョークとしてグーグルに掲載があると聞きました。しかしジョークはジョークとして、芝を刈り、車を見つけるとはどういう意味かいまだに不明です。南部の広大な空き地に車を止め、草が生い茂るまで放っておいたので、どこに自分の車があるか分からなくなり、芝刈機を使って、芝<font face="Times New Roman, serif">(</font>草？）を刈りながら探すような馬鹿な田舎ものという意味ですかね。誰かもっと説明のつく解説をお願いします。</p>
<p lang="ja-JP" style="margin-bottom: 0cm">“<font face=
"Times New Roman, serif">Gentlemen, start your
engine.”</font> 奥村さんから、米国自動車協会の<font face="Times New Roman, serif">promotion
slogan</font>
だと教えてもらいました。グーグルによれば、有名なアメリカ自動車レース、インディ５００マイルのスタートのアナウンスの言葉でした。文芸は何でもありなので面白いですね。</p>
