Japan is a land where mastery of hand-held high-tech gadgetry is highly acclaimed. It should come as no surprise, then, that it produces state of the art masturbation toys, if Shukan Jitsuwa (6/7) is to be believed.
Take the 3-D adult video that simply involves plugging a console into the TV and VCR, putting on a pair of special glasses and then watching the movie featuring a libidinous couple as though it was happening right in front of your eyes.
"With the adult video industry going through a slump, we needed to come up with an idea that was going to sell and this is it," a man we'll call Taro Sugisaki tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "To be honest, this set comes at a price that's a bit stiff for the average household, so we're taking a bit of a beating with it. But that's been worth it, because we've had so many customers who've told us they've been happy because it's been like they've actually been there while the sex was taking place."
For those who prefer something a little more titillating than a movie, there's the Super Real Breast. Constructed of silicon that feels better than any woman's skin, the C-cup breast-shaped toy is no booby prize and its authentic nipples no sucker.
For something a little more heady, there's Fella Mania, which is a toy made in the shape of a woman's mouth and includes a tongue that can be moved as though it were licking.
For the best of both worlds, there's Premium Meiki, which is an imitation of a woman's midriff.
"It's made of high-quality silicon, so I suppose for some it feels even better than a real woman," says Naoko Hinoki, owner of the Shinjuku adult shop Nether Land. "The interior of the front is made with detailed ripples, giving it the necessary friction. And it also has a back door, which is tighter than the front, for those that way inclined."
Shukan Jitsuwa recommends these toys be used with Onkan Lotion, a lubricant said to recreate the warmth generated in the private parts of an aroused woman.
A similar motivation led to the development of A SO KO, an aroma derived from that emitted by porn actress Yuri Komuro's private parts.
"We made it for those who have a fetish for smells," a spokesman for Sunrise, the company that produces the perfume, tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "We took a pair of Miss Komuro's used undies and extracted the aroma to create the scent. But, because some people may be turned off by the idea of that smell alone, we also mixed in touches of the perfume she was wearing at the time."
Other products in the series offer perfumes created from Komuro's body odor, her favorite scents, or the smells emitted from her home.
Innovative Komuro has also produced a CD designed to be listened to while the eyes are closed. Most tracks involve Komuro whispering sweet nothings, punctuated by the cries she would emit while having a romp.
"I'd get an echo while we were recording the CD and every time I heard my panting, I'd get so embarrassed," she tells Shukan Jitsuwa.
