<> 1. Hōnen (法然, May 13, 1133 – February 29, 1212) is the religious reformer and founder of the first independent branch of Japanese Pure Land Buddhism called Jōdo shū (浄土宗, "The Pure Land School"). Master Honen,Founder Priest of Jodo Shu, devoted his whole life solely to teaching people the virtue of chanting [nenbutsu] or the name od Amida Buddha. 2. Before Master Honen established Jodo Shu, it was widely believed that only a handful of people such as top elites and those who had been accumulating spritual practices could be saved in Buddhism. 3. He did not think that such teaching of Buddhism would meet the true wish of Amida Buddha which is to save all sentient beings. He taught that one can be saved and be reborn in the pure land, not by one's own ability or personality, but by the virtue of reciting Amida Buddha's name. 4. Chion-in, the Head Temple of Jodo Shu, was constructed at the place where Master Honen established Jodo Shu and entered into nirvana, and it is the spritual base for great many followers of Jodo Shu to this day. ----

From The Japan Times (Oct.19th 2012) Deepest Condolences It is our regret to inform with deepest sorrow that His Majesty NORODOM SHIANOUK, King Father of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Supreme Honorary President of Nenbutsushu Buddhist Sect of Japan and Buddhist Summit, passed away in the early morning on October 15, 2012. His Majesty overcome various difficulties and attained great achievements in his whole life in bringing peace, serenity, and prosperity to all the people of the Kingdom of Cambodia, based on the teachings of Buddhism. His Majesty was the Symbol of the Nation, titled as "Father of Impendence, Unity, and National Reconciliation" and truly deserved the honorary title, "Supreme Royal Father od World Buddhism." From Wikipedia, His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk Norodom Sihanouk (Khmer: នរោត្តម សីហនុ; 31 October 1922 – 15 October 2012) was the King of Cambodia from 1941 to 1955 and again from 1993 to 2004. He was the effective ruler of Cambodia from 1953 to 1970. After his second abdication in 2004, he was known as "The King-Father of Cambodia" (Khmer: Preahmâhaviraksat), a position in which he retained many of his former responsibilities as constitutional monarch. The son of King Norodom Suramarit and Queen Sisowath Kossamak, Sihanouk held so many positions since 1941 that the Guinness Book of World Records identifies him as the politician who has served the world's greatest variety of political offices.[1] These included two terms as king, two as sovereign prince, one as president, two as prime minister, as well as numerous positions as leader of various governments-in-exile.
