<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">綾の著書「追跡」には「追跡」以外にも少なくとも三つ話が存在している。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">その中には、予言者綾の著書だけあって明らかに他の本編に関与する話が存在する（人間もどき）。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">そこで、これらの三つを考察してみよう。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">まずは巨人。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">……真夜中わたしの部屋の上を、巨人がまたいでいきます。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 巨人は重さもなく、匂いもなく、音も出さず、透明で</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> けして目に見えず、手に触れることもできません。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> そして裏の森から、街の明かりがうっすらと光る方へ</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> しずしず、しずしずと歩くのです。……</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">これはウニの体験談として語られるものの中に似たフレーズがある。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">
＞師匠に彼女の話をすると「次は多分大きい人を見てるよ」と予言されたのだが、去年久しぶりに彼女ができたので聞いてみると彼女も一回だけ変な体験をしており、「夜中に窓の外を異常に大きな人影が通り過ぎて行った」</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">とのこと。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">しかし「けして目に見えず」とあるし、師匠シリーズではないので無関係か？</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">次は題名が登場しない。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> ……公園で遊んでいた女の子を攫ったのはペットの犬を亡くし</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> たからだった。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 家の地下室で飼いはじめたものの、ちっとも懐かないので目を</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 潰してみた。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> すると少女はすっかり従順になり、ペットとして相応しい態度</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> をみせはじめたのだった。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 食事は一日２回。仕事に行く前と帰った後に与えた。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 出入り口は一つだけ。私が現れそして消える、鍵の掛かった</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> ドア。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 少女に名前はない。私はペットに名前をつけない。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> ２年が経った。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> ふと思いついて地下室の壁に羽目殺しの窓を打ちつけた。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> もちろんただの飾りだ。向こうには何もない。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 少女にはこういった。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 「窓の向こうは海だよ」……</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">キーワードを拾ってみよう。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">・ペットの犬。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">ウニの実家で犬を飼っており、また「田舎」では重要なキーワードだが。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">主人公はウニ？</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">
一応師匠シリーズは実話と銘打っているし、まさかこんなところで犯罪を暴露したりはしないと思うが。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">・地下室。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">そういえば「家鳴り」では地下室がキーワードになっていた。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">まさか地下室に消えた画家がこの話の主人公？</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">しかし画家が「仕事に行く前と帰った後」などと言うだろうか。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">・目を潰した。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">そういえば「雨上がり」では間崎京子が盲目になっていた。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">しかし間崎京子が盲目になったのは高校卒業以降で、公園で遊ぶような女の子であるとは思えない。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">・私はペットに名前をつけない。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">そういえば「怪物」ではクラノキが「怪物に名前をつけてはいけない。」などと言っていた。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">・地下室に窓。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">そういえば「古い家」では非常に深い地下室に窓があった。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">あれはよくわからない異世界に通じていたが。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">次は「人間もどき」。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 今日も人間もどきを探して歩く。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 人間もどきは人間のつもりなのだ。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 人間のように食べて、人間のように働いて</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 人間のように笑ったり泣いたりする。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> ぼくは人間もどきを道端で、公園で、トンネルで、</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 校舎で、ビルディングの中で、そして時々人の家の中で</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 見つけてはそいつの耳元でこうささやくのだ。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> 「あなたは人間じゃないよ」</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> そうすると人間もどきはトロトロと溶けるように消えていく。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> あとには何も残らない。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> ぼくの町は随分閑散としてきた。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> あと何匹の人間もどきがいるのだろう。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> はやくぼくは一人になりたい。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;"> そうすれば誰もぼくの耳元に秘密の言葉をささやくことはないから。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">これは明らかに「四つの顔」の山下さんだ。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">秘密の言葉とはなんだろう。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">「四つの顔」には以下のようにある。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">＞すべてのＤを殺して回っているという彼が本当に恐れているのは……</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">＞自分に真実を告げる他者の存在。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">「四つの顔」では名言はされないが山下さんがＤであることが示唆されている。</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0cm;">つまり秘密の言葉とはまさに「あなたは人間じゃないよ」なのかもしれない。</p>
