-3月3日、[[キューバ]]の[[ハバナ]]で生まれる。
-父親は建築関係の労働者。ジャマイカ人で、パナマ運河建設のためにパナマに居た。現地に家族を連れてくることが許されていなかったため、家族はパナマに近いキューバを生活拠点としていた。
*1933年
-[[ジャマイカ]]に移住する。
*1938年
-[[Alpha Boys' School]]に入学し、[[テナー・サックス]]、[[ソプラノ・サックス]]、[[フルート]]をマスターする。
*1943年
-[[Alpha Boys' School]]を卒業する。
-卒業後、[[Eric Deans Orchestra]]に志願し加入。ツアーに出たり、[[Count Ossie]]や[[Ray Coburn]]の演奏に参加するなどの活動を行う。
*1954年
-招待され、バハマのナッソーへ渡航する。ザンジバル・クラブのビッグバンドでジャズ演奏を行う。
-アメリカのマイアミに旅行した際にJohn Coltraneの音楽を耳にし、ジャズにのめりこむ。
*1960年
-[[ジャマイカ]]に一時帰国し、ビッグバンドの契約終了後に[[ジャマイカ]]に帰国することを決意する。

-[[ジャマイカ]]に帰国。
-[[Jazz Jamaica From the Workshop]]として、[[Coxsone Dodd]]の元でジャズ・セッションをはじめる。
