*Handling of Windows Internet Explorer 7 **Quick overview HFSLIP 1.4.0 (and newer) supports three methods: * installation at first GUI logon (default) * installation at T-13 * slipstreaming (Windows XP only) **Installation at first GUI logon By default, HFSLIP has Internet Explorer 7 installed at first GUI logon, or when the Welcome screen first appears. Internet Explorer 7 namely requires the operating system to be able to identify itself as "legitimate", which, for mainstream versions of Windows, is only possible after you have activated your copy from the post-install wizard of Windows setup. Downsides of this method: -Windows setup only shows the activation screen in the post-install wizard if an active Internet connection is detected. In other words: this method will fail if no active Internet connection could be found (eg, because your network adapter is not supported). -You have to reboot manually when Windows setup has completed because Internet Explorer 7 requires a reboot after it has been installed. * The installation of Internet Explorer 7 also delays the installation of items such as the Windows Desktop, the Address book, and Themes until after the reboot, so you'll notice a plain and simple user interface at first. This method requires modifyPE.exe from modpe081.zip in the HFTOOLS folder. **Installation at T-13 For editions of Windows that are pre-activated or do not require activation, it is possible to have Internet Explorer 7 installed at T-13; no additional reboot is required in this case. To tell HFSLIP that you'd prefer Internet Explorer 7 to be installed at T-13, specify IE7SVCPACK=1 in HFANSWER.INI, the answer file that is to be placed in HFTOOLS. This method requires modifyPE.exe from modpe081.zip in the HFTOOLS folder. **Slipstreaming (Windows XP only) You can also have HFSLIP slipstream Internet Explorer 7 directly into the source. To use this method, specify IE7SLIPSTREAM=1 in HFANSWER.INI. Known issues with this method: -PNG transparency doesn't work -Some IE7 registry tweaks you may wish to add yourself with a .REG file (PhishingFilter, RunOnceHasShown, RunOnceComplete, UseClearType, etc.) don't seem to take, even through HFGUIRUNONCE (see Advanced features for info on the HFGUIRUNONCE folder). For a successful IE7 slipstream, you should: -include the IE7 hotfixes (at least KB928090) -include the latest public shell32.dll update (currently KB928255 from February's patch round) -exclude any hotfixes for IE6 (if you don't do this, IE7 slipstreaming will result in a broken Windows installation)
