"ID is not anti-evolution"（インテリジェントデザインは反進化論ではない）
超越神によって策定された自然法則と初期値によって進化が起きたというポジションである有神論的進化論。これは宇宙（あるいはインフレーション宇宙）の始まりの時点で、人間にいたる生物進化に必要なものの宇宙への持ち込みが完了しているというフロントローディングと呼ばれる立場である。
このフロントローディング(Front loading)と対応する言葉が介入(Intervention)である。この介入とは、宇宙誕生後に超自然サイドから宇宙内部への介入を指す。有神論的には神の顕現あるいは神の奇跡と呼ばれるもの。
インテリジェントデザインはこれら介入とフロントローディングの間をふらつきつつ、あいまいな表現に終始している。
このため、"ID is not anti-evolution"（インテリジェントデザインは反進化論ではない）と言い出すインテリジェントデザイン支持者たちもいる。
介入を想定するインテリジェントデザイン
インテリジェントデザインでは、生物/生物の器官が進化によって説明できそうになければ、デザインだと推論する(Dembski's Explanatory filter)。すなわち「自然法則でも偶然でも説明できないものはデザインだ」と。

(意味ありげ＋ありえそうにない）
すなわち、自然法則の逸脱こそがデザインの定義であり、それは超自然から自然界への介入を意味する。
そのような介入を認めないという点で、通常の進化論と同じポジションに立つのが有神論的進化論である。これをインテリジェントデザインは認めない。
ID rejects theistic evolution not for theological but for scientific reasons. ID views evolution, insofar as it is committed to explaining the evolutionary process in terms of material mechanisms (like natural selection), as a failed research program. A guided form of evolution is fine for ID provided such guidance is empirically detectable, thereby facilitating a design inference. But theistic evolution is committed to methodological materialism and therefore rejects the very possibility of design being inferred scientifically for biological systems.
インテリジェントデザインが有神論的進化論を否定するのは神学上の理由ではなく、科学的理由による。インテリジェントデザインは進化論を、進化過程を自然選択のような唯物論メカニズムによって説明しようとする、間違った研究プログラムとして見ている。そのような指導を経験的に検出可能だとするインテリジェントデザインにとって、指導された進化は適切である。しかし、有神論的進化論は方法論的唯物論をとっており、したがって生物学的器官に対してデザインの可能性を科学的に推論することを否定する。
そして、超自然から自然界へのデザインの持ち込み方法を論じる。
How much energy is required to impart information? We have sensors that can detect quantum events and amplify them to the macroscopic level. What's more, the energy in quantum events is proportional to frequency or inversely proportional to wavelength. And since there is no upper limit to the wavelength of, for instance, electromagnetic radiation, there is no lower limit to the energy required to impart information. In the limit, a designer could therefore impart information into the universe without inputting any energy at all. Whether the designer works through quantum mechanical effects is not ultimately the issue here.
情報を持ち込むのにどれだけのエネルギーが必要とされるだろうか？ 我々には、量子イベントを検出して、マクロレベルに増幅するセンサーがある。さらに、量子イベントのエネルギーは周波数に比例し、あるいは波長に反比例する。そして、たとえば電磁波の波長には上限がないので、情報を持ち込むのに必要なエネルギー量の下限もない。極限において、デザイナーは従って、エネルギーをまったく流入させずに、情報を宇宙の内部へ持ち込める。デザイナーが量子力学的効果によってデザインを持ち込んだかどうかは、究極の問題ではない。

が指摘するように、エネルギーゼロなら情報を持ち込めない。デザイン持ち込み時には「エネルギー保存則が崩れる」と主張してもよいのだが、物理法則の基本を曲げたくないらしく、そうは言わない。
しかし、デザインを持ち込むというIntervention(介入)がないと、初期値と物理法則をデザイナーのせいにするフロントローディングになってしまって、有神論的進化論と区別がつかなくなる。
介入を想定しないインテリジェントデザイン
ところが、有神論的進化論を敵視しつつ、インテリジェントデザインは介入を主張しないと言って見たりする。
First off, intelligent design is not a form of anti-evolutionism. Intelligent design does not claim that living things came together suddenly in their present form through the efforts of a supernatural creator. インテリジェントデザインは反進化論の一形態ではない。インテリジェントデザインは生物が超自然の創造主によって、すべて同時に現在の形態で出現したとは主張しない。インテリジェントデザインは創造論の教義ではない。
ID is not an interventionist theory. Its only commitment is that the design in the world be empirically detectable. All the design could therefore have emerged through a cosmic evolutionary process that started with the Big Bang. What's more, the designer need not be a deity. インテリジェントデザインは介入理論ではない。唯一のコミットメントは、世界にあるデザインが経験的に検出可能だということである。したがって、すべてのデザインはビッグバンに始まる宇宙の進化過程を通して出現したかもしれない。さらに、デザイナーは神である必要はない。地球外知性でもいいし、宇宙に内在する目的過程かもしれない。インテリジェントデザインは創造論の教義ではない。
フロントローディングのようでもあり、介入のようでもあるというあいまいな主張になってしまっている。
"ID is not anti-evolution"（インテリジェントデザインは反進化論ではない）
インテリジェントデザインは主張があいまいなため、"ID is not anti-evolution"と言う支持者たちもいる。
これらの主張は"Evolution"を以下のように定義した上で、その途中までを受け入れることで、成り立っているらしい。
- Change over time; history of nature; any sequence of events in nature
- Changes in the frequencies of alleles in the gene pool of a population
- Limited common descent: the idea that particular groups of organisms have descended from a common ancestor.
- The mechanisms responsible for the change required to produce limited descent with modification, chiefly natural selection acting on random variations or mutations.
- Universal common descent: the idea that all organisms have descended from a single common ancestor.
- "Blind watchmaker" thesis: the idea that all organisms have descended from common ancestors solely through an unguided, unintelligent, purposeless, material processes such as natural selection acting on random variations or mutations; that the mechanisms of natural selection, random variation and mutation, and perhaps other similarly naturalistic mechanisms, are completely sufficient to account for the appearance of design in living organisms.
- 時間を経ての変化。自然の歴史。自然のイベントの時系列。
- 集団の遺伝子プール内の対立遺伝子の頻度の変化
- 限定的共通祖先。特定の生物集団が共通祖先の子孫であるという考え
- 限定的共通祖先から変化を起こすメカニズムで、主としてランダムな突然変異について働く自然選択
- ユニバーサル共通祖先。全生物が一つの共通祖先の子孫であるという考え
- ブラインドウォッチメーカー。共通祖先からの進化は、ランダムな突然変異について働く自然選択のような、導かれない、インテリジェントでない、目的のない、物質的プロセスのみのよって起きる
出典文献の執筆者であるインテリジェントデザイン理論家Dr. Stephen Meyer(科学史＆科学哲学)は、4までOKで、5に疑義、6を否定というポジションとっているもよう。
インテリジェントデザイン理論家で、5.まで認めているのは生化学のDr. Michael Beheだけ。
Usually it means common descent -- the idea that all organisms living and dead are related by common ancestry. I have no quarrel with the idea of common descent, and continue to think it explains similarities among species.
6. の「すべての生物は共通祖先から、自然選択がランダムな変異もしくは突然変異に対して働くような、指導されない、インテリジェントでない、目的のない、唯物論的過程によって生じた」を否定した場合、当然、「インテリジェントな、目的のある、超自然の介入」があったと考えるほかない。
ところが、インテリジェントデザインは、介入(intervention)について、あいまいな立場をとっている。
"ID is not anti-evolution but anti-blind watch maker"
デザイナーの介入の有無についての立場をあいまいにしているインテリジェントデザインの主張はつまるところ、「反進化論ではないが、反ブラインドウォッチメーカーである」というもになりそう。
でも、ブラインドウォッチメーカーの代案はもちろん、ない。古い地球の創造論者Dr. Hugh Rossはそのことを指摘する：
When it comes to the origin of the universe, life, and humanity, scientists want history's story. They emphatically request that the story be cast in the form of a testable model. In a two-hour prime-time national television debate in 1997 between evolutionists and ID leaders, the evolutionists repeatedly asked, "Where is your model?" and never received a reply. Nine years later, evolutionists still ask the same question and still receive no response.
