E.T., Star Wars, Back to the Future, Jaws―you have probably seen at least one of them. They were the most famous movies directed by Lucas or Spielberg in the 1970s and 1980s. They made a hit with young people all over the world. Lucas and Spielberg suddenly became stars in the American film world. The singer Michael Jackson said, “I must have seen E.T. around 40 times, and Jaws a hundred times or so. I love Steven so much. He inspires me more than anybody on earth today.”
Neither Lucas nor Spielberg was happy at school. They had few friends, and they were often bullied. They felt happy only when they read stories or watched television at home. Movies soon became their dream world.
They began making movies quiet early. Spielberg was only thirteen when he first made an 8 mm. movie with his father’s camera and won a film contest in his hometown. Although he studied English literature at university, he never thought of any career other than making movies. Lucas went to university to study film making. He made eight movies as a student.
