North Korea will reopen tourism to the Mount Kumgang resort and allow reunions for families separated since the Korean War.
North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency said on Monday that the country's leader Kim Jong Il and the chairwoman of the Hyundai Group, Hyun Jeong Eun, came to an agreement on these matters on Sunday. They also agreed that North Korea would start tourism to Mount Paektu.
In addition, the North will reopen tourism to the border city of Kaesong and promote business in the North and South Korean joint industrial complex in Kaesong by normalizing the traffic across the military demarcation line. Tourism to the Mount Kumgang resort has been suspended since July 2008.
According to the news agency, North Korea will allow family reunions to take place in fall this year at Mount Kumgang.
The South Korean government will study the situation after Hyun gives briefing when she returns on Monday.
