Japan will send relief supplies worth 100 million yen, or more than a million dollars, to Taiwan. The island was severely hit by typhoon Morakot earlier this month.
Taiwanese authorities say Morakot has left at least 126 people dead, mostly in the southern part of the island. As the damage spreads from swollen rivers and mudslides, countries are offering aid.
The Japanese government will send 2 staff members from the Japan International Cooperation Agency on Tuesday. They will determine what supplies are needed in disaster-hit areas. The government is also considering sending a team of experts.
Japan has already announced financial aid over 100,000 dollars last week.
In the southern mountainous areas, there are still more than 1,000 people isolated. US helicopters dispatched on Monday helped rescue trapped citizens and transported heavy equipment needed for reconstruction.
