Kenya's wildlife authority says the country's lion population could disappear in the next 20 years unless protective measures are taken.
The Kenya Wildlife Service says the country is losing about 100 lions each year. It says the total number of lions has decreased from 2,749 in 2002 to some 2,000 now.
The authority says the causes of the decline are climate change, habitat destruction, disease and conflict with humans.
Lions are a major tourist attraction in Kenya's safari parks and the organization says it is very important to increase public awareness of the need to protect the species.

アフリカ、ケニアの政府機関が、このままでは国内のライオンが２０年後には絶滅する恐れがあると警告しました。
野生動物の保護や調査などを行うケニアの政府機関「ケニア野生生物公社」によりますと、ライオンは毎年１００頭ずつ減っており、２００２年に２,７４９頭いたライオンが、今ではおよそ２,０００頭に減っているということです。
「ケニア野生生物公社」は、ライオンが減少している原因として、気候変動や生息地が荒らされていること、病気、それに（家畜を狙うライオンと）人間との対立をあげています。
ライオンはケニアのサファリパークに外国人観光客をひきつける最大の呼び物で、ケニア野生生物公社は、ライオン保護の必要性をこれまで以上に国民に理解してもらうことが重要だと指摘しています。
