The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at former U.S. President George W. Bush was released on Tuesday after nine months in prison.
Muntazer al-Zaidi had been serving a one-year prison term for assaulting a visiting head of state.
His sentence was reduced for good behavior.
He hurled his shoes at Bush during a news conference in Baghdad last December, saying they were gifts from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.
Al-Zaidi was welcomed by his colleagues and supporters at a Baghdad TV station.
He told reporters that he had been motivated by the oppression that fell on the Iraqi people and the humiliation of his homeland.
Anger towards the former Bush administration persists in Arab countries, including Iraq. Many people regard al-Zaidi's act of protest as heroic and have offered him luxury cars and houses.

アメリカのブッシュ前大統領に靴を投げつけたイラク人記者が、９か月の服役を終えて、火曜日に釈放されました。
ムンタゼル・ザイディ記者は、訪問中の外国の首脳を襲撃した罪で禁固１年の判決を受け、服役していましたが、服役態度が良かったことから刑期が短縮されました。
ザイディ記者は、去年１２月にバグダッドで行われた当時のブッシュ大統領の記者会見中に、「未亡人や孤児、イラクで殺された人からの贈り物だ」などと罵声をあびせながら、自分の靴を大統領に投げつけました。
（出所した）ザイディ記者はバグダッド市内のテレビ局で同僚や支援者らの歓迎を受け、記者会見で「イラクの人々への抑圧と祖国の屈辱が（靴を投げた）動機であった」と語りました。
イラクをはじめとするアラブ諸国では、ブッシュ前政権に対する怒りは今も根強く、ザイディ記者の抗議行動を英雄視して、高級車や住居の提供する申し出が相次いでいるということです。
