It was an opportunity to see a rare sight in the sky.
A total solar eclipse covered wide areas of Asia from India and China to Japan. The total eclipse was the first observed in Japan in 46 years.
Sky gazers on Iwoto island, south of Tokyo, were lucky enough to be able to view the total solar eclipse on Wednesday. On the island, Japan's National Astronomical Observatory and NHK worked together to broadcast the total solar eclipse.
At 11:25 A.M., the sun was hidden by the moon and a phenomenon called "black sun" could be seen.
Sky gazers also observed a phenomenon called the diamond ring, in which sunlight glows like a ring just before and after the moon blocks the sun. The astronomical show lasted five minutes.
Unfortunately, those who gathered on Akuseki-jima Island in southern Japan were affected by bad weather.
If the clouds had parted, the total eclipse would have been the longest seen from any inhabited part of the world this century.
A partial solar eclipse was observed elsewhere in Japan.

上空でのめったにない現象を見られる絶好の機会でした。
皆既日食が、インドや中国から日本にいたるアジアの広い地域で観測され、日本国内では４６年ぶりの皆既日食となりました。
このうち、東京の南にある硫黄島は、天候に恵まれ、国立天文台とNHKが共同で皆既日食の様子を中継しました。
午前１１時２５分に太陽が月の陰に隠れ、「黒い太陽」と呼ばれる現象が起きました。また、その前後には太陽光線が指輪のように輝く「ダイヤモンドリング」と呼ばれる現象も観察されました。この世紀の天体ショーは５分間続きました。
残念ながら、日本の南部にある悪石島では、悪天候の影響を受けて観測できませんでした。天候がよければ、人が住んでいる地域で今世紀もっとも長く皆既日食が見られたはずでした。
なお部分日食は、国内の他の各地でも観察されました。
