大問3:単語推測・話し合い・空所補充

Aya:I have a tough exam tommorow, but I haven't been studying as much as I should. Pleasse tell me what questions you think will be set for the exam. I study only about them, and that would be sufficient to pass the exam.
Emily: You're bum! You always watched cartoons or played video games instead of studying during the semester. You should study hard by yourself.
Aya: I've had enough! I make up my mind to give up the exam and I will enjoy playing The Tales Weaver tonight.

In this situation, bum means []

①perfectionist
②lazy
③punctual
④smart

B 次の英文は高校の道徳の授業で動物愛護について話し合われた議論の一部である。最も適当なものを、それぞれ下の①~④のうちから一つずつ選べ。

Teacher: Our topic today is animal rights. Animal rights is the idea that animals should be treated with the same value as human beings. Now, do you agree to this, or do you disagree? Any opinions?

Jane: I definitely agree. I think that it's important for humans to recognize that animals have lives as we do, and they should be treated equally. Recently I saw a documentary on TV, highlighting how some pet owners abuse their pets. As an owner of a dog myself, I just couldn't believe it! To me, my dog is my family, and I treat her as my family. I think everyone should share love and compassion to animals in a similar way as we do to other people.

Teacher: That was interesting. Jane says that [ 1 ]. Does anyone else have an idea? Fred?

① animals should be abused
② animals express compassion towards humans
③ only pets should be treated positively
④ humans and animals should be considered equivalent

Fred: I agree to Jane to some extent but not completely. I think that it would be great if we can treat all animals like humans, but that's unrealistic. If you look only at pets, Jane's opinion is true, but how about livestock, or farm animals? This may be harsh, but the ultimate reason of humans raising farm animals is for us to eat. Without them we wouldn't be able to survive.

Teacher: That's an interesting point of view. Fred thinks that [ 2 ]. Peter, anything to add?

① it's difficult to care every animal
② we shouldn't care about animal rights
③ livestock should have animal rights
④ pets and farm animals should be treated equally

Peter: I understand what Jane and Fred both said, and feel that they are both correct. I think that Jane's opinion is what we should aim at, but Fred's opinion is the reality. What is important is for us to handle them with respect, recognizing that they're alive, but at the same time we need to know that in some cases we cannot completely treat them equally with humans.

Teacher: Thank you Peter. You rounded today's discussion by saying [ 3 ].

① we should follow Jane's opinion completely
② animal rights must be followed
③ we must value animals
④ animals respect humans

解答
[ 1 ] ④
[ 2 ] ①
[ 3 ] ③
