As an international citizen and especially as a citizen of a country that daily violates the basic human and civil rights of its citizens (the USA), I'd like to add my voice to those around the world protesting the Japanese government's practice of arbitrary detention of activists without trial. It is neither acceptable to arrest people for walking down the sidewalk or to hold people in jail without trial for weeks. This is clearly a basic as well as a calculated violation of the human and civil rights of Japanese citizens, and should be opposed by everyone in Japan and around the world who values real democracy and international law, both of which require that the right to dissent be protected, not punished by arbitrary arrests and unreasonably long periods of detention without trial.
