**概要
ヘイローシリーズで知られるバンジーが開発したオンラインFPS。Xbox 360版とXbox One版は海外でのみリリースされている。
バンジー独自の技術によるマッチメイキングシステムを採用することで、従来のMMOゲームと異なり、様々な要素がシームレスに組み合わさったSWS(世界共有参加型シューター)と言う新システムを構成している。
音楽はSFテイストな世界観に合った、オーケストラによる壮大な楽曲が主流。
ヘイローシリーズを手掛けたマーティン・オドネル氏とマイケル・サルヴァトーリ氏が作曲を担当している。
なお長きにわたってバンジースタジオの音楽を支えたマーティン・オドネル氏は、この作品を最後にバンジースタジオを退社した。
また、主題歌「Hope for the Future」を含むゲーム中の楽曲の制作に、元ビートルズのPaul McCartney氏が無償で参加したことでも話題になった。
同氏はその経緯について聞かれた際、自身の音楽に馴染みの無い、全く新しいオーディエンスへ繋がる素晴らしい機会であったためと語っている。
2015年9月には、大型追加コンテンツ『Destiny 降り立ちし邪神』が発売され、多数新曲が追加された。
