They admitted inventing its kinky features, or rather deliberately mistranslating them from the original gossip magazine. |
In fact, this is far from the general Japanese' behavior or sense of worth. |

Not too long ago, Japanese couples used to blush while holding hands in front of others. It took enormous amounts of courage to give a public peck. But now, according to Shukan Taishu (5/26), growing numbers of couples are having no-holds-barred sessions just about anywhere.
"After midnight, nearly all the establishments in our area shut down, so couples sneak into the emergency exits besides elevators and do it on the landings there. I saw this woman and a much younger guy, probably from the disco next door. They were headed over to this space, but somebody had already beaten them to it.'This isn't a love hotel,' I thought to myself," a chef from the trendy Shibuya district popular among Gen Ys tells Shukan Taishu. "Shibuya attracts lots of young couples. It's not just our building, I think most buildings cop it. It's hardly rare."
Any the activities are not just nocturnal.
"I was on my way to work when I heard these muffled grunts as I walked past (Shibuya's) Miyashita Park. I looked into the park and there was a young couple going for it," a computer engineer tells Shukan Taishu."This was a time when most people were on their way to work. I couldn't believe they were doing it in that place. At first, I thought they must have been making a blue movie."
Many young couples into outdoor romps point the finger at Japan's decade-long downturn.
"Actually, I've been seeing my boyfriend at his apartment for the past six months, but with the recession, my bonuses have been cut and my real wages have dropped. It's hard enough getting by as it is without having to pay the extra transport costs involved in traveling to work from his place in the boondocks of Saitama Prefecture," a 26-year-old travel company employee says, adding that she lives with her parents so their only other option is an even-more-expensive love hotel. "I've got no other choice but smuggle him into my workplace on nights when I work overtime so we can have a bit of nooky in the meeting rooms or waiting rooms."
Financial reasons aren't always behind the decision to go al fresco.
"We've got a dog and it's my job to take it for a walk in a park near our home. There's a hunk of a university student who walks his dog there, too. Our dogs became buddies, so we exchanged e-mail addresses. I sent him a message one night saying that I would be taking my dog for a walk at 10 and asked him to join me.When he said he would, I knew that I'd get him in my clutches," a 36-year-old housewife tells Shukan Taishu, adding that she has always liked younger men but the presence of her small children prevents her from going out on the town at nights. "We had our first liaison behind a shed in the park. We didn't go all the way...I just serviced him orally. It's become so much fun taking the dog for a walk recently."
For other outdoor proponents, it's the thrill rather than any financial or timing motivation that does it for them.
A 20-year-old university student from Chiba Prefecture and her boyfriend chose an observatory point with a great view of the sea to engage in their lustful flights of fancy.
"Simply thinking that somebody could come along and catch us at any time made me all the more excited. It was the first time I ever climaxed before my boyfriend," she tells Shukan Taishu, adding that the observatory has become their love hotel away from love hotels. "I don't think we've ever been spotted. But the thrill of not knowing makes it even more exciting." May 14, 2003
