Dodging is a very important technique.
Smash Attacks, Ground Smashes, Lift Strikes, Throws, Blasts, and so forth can be dodged with a well-timed Up Cursor Out (or ↓key).
If you can stay calm, anticipate and dodge your opponent's attack you'll have a major opportunity in front of you.
If you're in trouble, you might still be able to turn things around.
