Crazed teens spice up gang-bashing by adding girl's cut off finger to curry pot 2007,5,30
Shukan Gendai 6/9 By Ryann Connell
If the sight of a teenage girl staggering along a road in Matsuzaka, Mie Prefecture, in the early hours of the morning while naked from the waist down and covered in blood was not sufficient enough to shock, her tale of how she got that way has certainly sent a chill down spines, according to Shukan Gendai (6/9).
"She told me, 'I've been gang-bashed and they cut my finger off. They would have killed me if I hadn't done something radical, so I jumped into the drain and hid under the water until they went away,' " the newspaper deliveryman who discovered the 18-year-old tells Shukan Gendai.
"She was pretty hysterical. The top of her little finger had been perfectly severed. Her white jacket was drenched with fresh blood. I realized something big had happened, so I called the delivery center and they alerted the police and called for an ambulance. The girl was trembling with both fright and the cold, but she was screaming 'I don't want any ambulance, just take me home as fast as possible.'"
Hours after the teen was rescued, police arrested two boys on assault charges -- a 17-year-old schoolboy and an unemployed teen aged 15 -- and two girls -- an 18-year-old temp worker and a jobless 17-year-old.
The alleged victim had been an online pen pal of the two girls arrested, but had made the mistake of posting a message saying the older girl had fallen pregnant.
The girl was called over to the temp worker's apartment in Matsuzaka during the day on May 18, where she was greeted by the two lads -- the younger of who was seeing the 18-year-old temp worker -- and the other arrested girl.
Cops say the four subjected the 18-year-old woman to 36 hours of beating, as well as lopping off large chunks of her hair.
"She suffered serious injuries, including a broken eyebrow bone. The beating went right through the 18th and into the 19th when the 15-year-old boy pulled out a knife and sliced off the pinky on her right hand," a national daily's reporter tells Shukan Gendai.
"She must have been in enormous pain. After they saw what happened to her, the other two girls said they felt sick and went out of the room."
Cutting off the young woman's finger wasn't enough, though, and the quartet allegedly continued their assault on the woman.
When she saw a chance to slip out of the apartment, she took it and raced out.
"She thought she'd be killed if she stayed there much longer, so she ran out and jumped into a sewage drain not far away. She hid there and the four kids couldn't find her. Eventually they returned to the apartment," the reporter says.
Not long after the girl was rescued, police swooped in and arrested the four teens.
A raid on the apartment where the girl was purportedly attacked unearthed her severed finger -- in a pot containing the leftovers of a curry meal.
"The arrested kids said they put the finger in a garbage bag, but a cop who went to the scene said they'd tried to hide it in the curry," a police investigation insider tells Shukan Gendai, adding that the girl had little hope of seeing her damaged digit restored.
"Unless a finger has been cut off cleanly, the chances of rejoining it are slim. And it didn't help her, either, that it took several hours to find the finger."
