The Battle of Tannenberg was an engagement between the Russian Empire and the German Empire in the first days of World War I. The Russian First and Second Armies fought against the German Eighth Army between 23 August and 30 August 1914. The battle resulted in the almost complete destruction of the Russian Second Army. A series of follow-up battles destroyed the majority of the First Army as well, and kept the Russians off-balance until the spring of 1915. The battle is notable particularly for a number of rapid movements of complete German corps by train, allowing a single German army to concentrate forces against each Russian army in turn.

タンネンベルクの戦いは第一次世界大戦初期にロシア軍とドイツ軍の間で行われた。ロシア軍第1軍と第2軍は1914年8月23日から30日までドイツ軍第8軍と戦った。この戦いでロシア軍第2軍はほぼ完全に壊滅した。これに続く一連の戦いで第1軍の過半数が壊滅、1915年ハルまでロシア軍の戦力は壊滅していた。鉄道を利用して数々の急速な展開を実行したドイツ軍軍団は特に注目に値し、ドイツ軍第8軍は単独で各方面のロシア軍に対し部隊を効率よく集中させることができた。
