概要
ヴァイキング時代の北欧神話をモチーフにした世界観のSRPG。
ADVのように重大な選択を迫られることも多い。
全三部作に渡る内容で、本作のクリアデータを続編に引き継ぐ事もできる。
『風ノ旅ビト』等の作品で知られているAustin Wintory氏が音楽を担当。
戦闘中は戦況に応じて変化し、本作の幻想的な雰囲気に一役買っている。
続編の『The Banner Saga2』，及び『3』においても担当している。
余談だがタイトルにあるBannerとは旗のことで、主人公たちが率いるキャラバンに加わった者たちは、一員の証としてキャラバンが掲げている長い旗に各々の旗印を織り込んでいる。
