ハーマイオニー登場のシーン。ハリーにとっての第一印象です。
'Has anyone seen a toad? Neville's lost one,' she said. She had a bossy sort of voice, lots of bushy brown hair and rather large front teeth.
「誰かヒキガエルを見なかった？ネビルのがいなくなったの。」
なんとなく威張った話し方をする女の子だ。栗色の髪がフサフサして、前歯がちょっと大きかった。
'Are you really?' said Hermione. 'I know all about you, of course - I got a few extra books for background reading, and you're in Modern Magical History and The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts and Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century.
'Am I?' said Harry, feeling dazed.
「ほんとに？私、もちろんあなたのこと全部知ってるわ。ー 参考書を二、三冊読んだの。あなたのこと、『近代魔法史』『黒魔術の栄枯盛衰』『二十世紀の魔法大事件』なんかに出てるわ」
「僕が？」ハリーは呆然とした。
Harry suddenly grabbed Ron's arm.
"I've just thought-Hermione."
"What about her?"
"She doesn't know about the troll."
ハリーが突然ロンの腕をつかんだ。
「ちょっと待って．．ハーマイオニーだ」
あいつがどうかしたかい？」
「トロールのこと知らないよ」
"Confuse it!" Harry said desperately to Ron, and seizing a tap he threw it as hard as he could against the wall.
"Come on, run, run!"Harry yelled at Hermione,trying to pull her towards the door, but she couldn't move.
「こっちに引き付けろ！」
ハリーは無我夢中でそう言うと、蛇口を拾って力いっぱいに壁に投げ付けた。（中略）
「早く、走れ、走るんだ！」
ハリーはハーマイオニーに向かって叫びながらドアの方に引っぱろうとしたが、ハーマイオニーは動けなかった。
It was really lucky that Harry now had Hermione as a friend. He didn't know how he'd have got through all his homework without her, what with all the last-minute Qudditch practice Wood was making them do. She had also lent him Quidditch through the Ages, which turned out to be a very interesuting read.
ハーマイオニーと友達になれたのは、ハリーにとってありがたいことだった。クィディッチの練習が追い込みに入ってからのウッドのしごきの中で、ハーマイオニーがいなかったら、あれだけの宿題を全部こなすのはとうてい無理だったろう。それに「クィディッチ今昔」という本も貸してくれた。これがまたおもしろい本だった。
"Just a bit of toast," wheedled Hermione.
"I'm not hugry."
「トーストをちょっとだけでも」ハーマイオニーがやさしく言った。
「お腹空いてないんだよ」
