**概要
「サイレントヒル」シリーズ第2作目。
後に『&bold(){サイレントヒル2 最期の詩}』という完全版が出ているので買うならそちらを推奨。
2012年にはPS3にて『[[サイレントヒル3]]』とカップリングしたHD版も発売された。日本国外では360でも発売されている。
2024年にPS5とPCでリメイク版が発売。BGMは既存曲のリメイクと新作が用意された。

音楽は全曲を山岡晃氏が担当、[[前作>サイレントヒル]]と同様にプレイヤーの恐怖心を煽るおどろおどろしい曲も多いが、「Theme of Laura」「Promise」など、サイレントヒルに集う罪深い人々を象徴した、物悲しさと寂寥感に溢れた曲が特徴的。

サントラの収録曲数は半数程度。

ゲームの世界観を完全に再現したと評価される映画版『サイレントヒル』でもゲームの曲がそのまま使用されており、「Theme of Laura」がスタッフロールのラストを飾っている。（日本公開版では別の曲に置き換えられているが）
