なんせまだ田舎から出て来た駆け出しの若者ですから、曲をつくるよりまずは演奏、ということでグラントグリーンがトリオで奏でるスタンダードナンバー。拙く儚く味わい深く。ブルーノートらしくいきなりリーダーアルバムな訳で、彼なりに丁寧に弾いてはみるものの、気持ちの盛り上がりをつい握力に変換してしまってコテコテしてしまいます。

と誰が言ったかは分かりませんが、彼には相性がいいようです。しかしながらサックスがテーマを吹いたりしてることもあって、まだ個性を確立とまでは行かかったようです。かなーり田舎臭い。

ようやく出来上がったスタイル

オルガンとの相性がいいのは分かった。でも何か足りない。正解は足すことではなく引くことでした。ギター＋オルガン＋ドラムのトリオ。それもみんな発展途上の若者同士なのでのびのびと演奏してます。グリーン、やっと見つけたね。

発売順でいくと、これがデビューアルバムです。なるほど。

■ルー親分に捧げるブルース

にしようと言ったのはグラントグリーン自身か、プロデューサーであるアルフレッド・ライオンが録音後に決めたのかはよく知らないのですが、ルー・ドナルドソンがこのメンバーたちの兄貴分だったことは自他ともに認めるところだったでしょう。音楽そのものにはあまり記憶がありません。
