Basic Movement //Welcome to the Xonotic movement tutorial. The physics in Xonotic are quite different from the previous version of the game. The basics remain the same, but the game play has been simplified to help you spend less time strafe jumping and more time fragging. In this tutorial, I'll teach you several movement techniques. Some of these techniques depend on previous ones, so it's a good idea to practice each one separately before integrating them altogether. //***1.1 Bunnyhopping //Let's start with a technique called bunnyhoppping. Bunnyhopping is jumping repeatedly to move throughout the physical space in the game. It removes the friction between you and the ground, which helps you gain much more speed over normal grounded movement. You might be familiar with bunnyhopping from other first-person shooter games. Xonotic is very similar. To bunnyhop, you hold down the forward and jump keys at the same time, just like this. The special feature in Xonotic is that you don't need to release the jump button between your jumps. You can simply hold it down to continue bunnyhopping. To make things even more simple, bunnyhopping gives you the greatest acceleration of all non-weapon movement tricks. This means that the difficult strafe jumping tricks from other games are not needed and are oftentimes useless in Xonotic.*****注: 0.5.0で変更***** //***1.2 Turning //Next, let's talk about turning. When bunnyhopping, you'll quickly gain speed. If you continue, only moving forward, you will eventually bump into a wall. This is where turning becomes important. //****1.2.1 Forward Turning //We'll cover forward turning first. As its name indicates, forward turning is done by holding down the forward button and looking around with the mouse. It's a very simple way to turn, but it is mostly only useful in your learning the rest of the physics in Xonotic or for doing turns of large radius. See that green meter on the center of my screen? That's the accelerometer. You can enable it in the settings menu by navigating to the miscellaneous tab and checking "show accelerometer". It's very helpful for finding out if you are moving around correctly, because, in the end, it is maximum acceleration we are striving for, when practicing movement. If you are gaining speed, the accelerometer is green and grows to the right. This is good. If you are losing speed, the accelerometer turns red and grows to the left. If it's centered, it means that you are neither losing nor gaining speed, such as when you are not pressing any movement keys at all. If your goal is to gain speed and the accelerometer is on the red side, you know that you are doing something wrong. As you can see in this example, you can't make very steep turns at higher speeds with forward turning. You'll keep sliding forward and your accelerometer will drop. However, there's a better way of turning, even if it is a little bit more difficult. //****1.2.2 Strafe Turning //The next turning technique is called strafe turning. In strafe turning, you only hold down the appropriate strafe key and the jump key. The left strafe key is of course *****不明瞭***** for strafe turning left, and the right strafe key is for strafe turning right. Move the mouse in a linear motion in the strafing direction. Your goal is to move in a perfect circle. Keep an eye on the accelerometer, because as long as it stays on the green side, you are moving the mouse at the correct speed. You'll notice that the physics are quite picky about how fast you turn the view while strafe turning, so this is something you need to practice with the help of the accelerometer. After you've completed your turn, release the strafe key and press the forward key again, stop moving the mouse, to resume your forward direction. Before you begin strafe turning the next time, it's a good idea to make sure that you are looking straight in the direction in which you are moving, which is done automatically for you, if you practice a habit of holding forward just before you start strafe turning. Otherwise, the accelerometer will drop quite fast and you'll lose quite some speed in an instant. This can be seen if you've enabled the speedometer as well. You will likely want to conbine forward turning and strafe turn. Foward turning is more suited to strafe narrow areas, whereas strafe turning is more suitable for tight corners. As always, practice makes perfect. //**2. Advanced Movement //Let's now turn our attention to some advanced movement techniques. At this point, you should have practiced *****不明瞭***** in the tutorial. Masteries of these basic moves we've covered so far are essential before we move on to the remaining ones. //***2.1 Streep Strafe Turning //Our first advanced movement technique is called steep strafe turning. Sometimes you need to turn very sharp corners. While you will sacriface some speed for make it around the very sharp corner, the loss of speed is still better than comming to a complete stop by hitting a wall. Making the sharp turns is possible when you move your mouse in a quick burst in the direction of the corner you are avoiding. Before and after the burst, you should strafe turn normally to avoid losing too much speed. This is quite tricky, so it's best illustrated with an example. //***2.2 Air Control //Next, let's talk about air control. As fun as it may be, you aren't going to be racing around on the floor all the time. Many of the movement techniques we've discussed are applicable in the air as well. They can be used for clever air manoeuvres. As you might have noticed, the major difference from the previous version of this game is that the strafe keys alone don't give you whole lot of acceleration, but instead diagonal strafing will. The reason behind this is that it allows strafe turning which gives you more control turning or jumping around. Diagonal strafing is done by holding forward together with either of the strafe keys, or alternatively by holding backwards together with eigher of the strafe keys. Also forward and backwards alone give you a lot of acceleration, so basically anything except the strafe keys alone will do for powerfull air control. Diagonal strafing can be useful for dodging rockets but still keeping your aim on target, or for air control in general when falling or when circle strafing around an enemy. //***2.3 Trickjumps //Our next topic is trickjumping. Trickjumps are features of many maps that allow you to gain height with just a bit of timing in bunnyhopping. They can be put there intintionally by mappers or just discovered later by players. Often it's a slope, which you approach with speed in order to jump up onto the ledge of platform above. The slope converts your horizontal speed into vertical speed, *****不明瞭***** the greater speed you have comming into the trickjump, the higher you can go. The trick to get most height out of a slope is to hit the ground just before the slope starts, so you'll get the vertical speed from both the jump and hitting the slope at the same time. Generally, you'll want to zig-zag just enough *****不明瞭***** strafe turning so that you can aim your landing into the correct spot. This takes quite some practice to become consistent, but it's worth it. Remember hitting the ground a little too early is way better than hitting the ramp while still falling down, as the accelerometer will tell you. //***2.4 Laserjumps //Our final topic in this tutorial is laserjumping. Laserjumping is a feature unique to Xonotic physics. Laserjumps are performed with the Laser weapon of course, which is always available in weapon slot 1. It has infinite ammunition, so you only have to worry about your health when using it. The Laser is useful for gainig speed, reaching higher areas, and climbing walls. We'll start with gainig speed, as it's quite important. If you start with no speed at all and want to start out perpendicular to a wall, aim straight at the wall, walk backwards, jump and fire at the same time. Then quickly let go the back key, turn around and start bunnyhopping as usual. Let's do this again in slow motion. Aim at the wall, hit back jump and fire at the same time, release the back button, turn around and continue bunnyhopping. If you already have some speed or want to start out at an angle, aim at the wall at an angle like this. Once again, with some speed. You can also do this when there are no walls nearby. Instead of aiming at a wall, aim at the ground, then jump and fire at the same time. Again, with some speed. With speed, you might find it easier instead to shoot straight down at the peak of your jump like in this example. Next up is reaching higher areas. This is done with a normal laserjump, which involves aiming straight down, jumping and immediately afterwards firing Laser. The timing takes some time to get used to, but you'll immediately notice if you get it wrong, because you will not jump very high at all, as you can see. When you've gotten used to it, you can even time it correctly after a bunnyhop. If you want to get even higher up, you'll need to find a more powerful weapon like the Grenade Launcher or the Rocket Launcher, both of whick will hurt you a lot more. Alternatively, find a wall which you can climb with the Laser. There is a certain correct angle that you need to get used to when laserclimbing. Other than that, it's nothing very special. Stand next to a wall, look perpendicular to it and hold forward. Start out with a normal laserjump. Then, aim at the wall at approximately this angle and keep the fire button pressed. Combined with diagonal strafing, you can steer around and reach all kinds of places that you wouldn't be able to reach otherwise. All right. That's everything for now. Have fun playing Xonotic and thanks for watching this movement tutorial. ---- コメント #comment
