『Call of Duty』シリーズのなかでもかなり未来をいく作品。地球人と火星入植者との惑星間戦争が展開される。
未来戦が4回も連続で続いたこともあり発表の時点で大不評であった。
そしていざ蓋を開けると、キャンペーンこそ歴代で一二を争う完成度を誇っていたが、マルチプレイヤーは『BO3から皮だけを取り替えただけの出来である上にゾンビは雰囲気が明るすぎるという、失望を裏切らないゲームであった。
