Under the status quo, students enter a university at April in Japan. However, according to a Tokyo university’s report, about seventy-percent countries hold university’s entrance in fall and about eighty-percent European and American countries hold university’s entrance in fall. Therefore, Japanese universities have trouble dealing with globalization. If Japanese universities change entrance ceremony in April into in fall, it will be easy for Japanese universities to deal with globalization and also there are merits for students. So, we want to explain merits for both universities and students sides one by one.
First, we want to explain merits for universities. After plan, we believe Japanese universities will become high level universities. High level mean more active exchange other countries on students and studies. As I said before, many countries’ universities take entrance in fall but in Japan take in April. Therefore, Japanese universities have difficulty connecting with foreign countries’ universities and students. We believe that situation leads to gap of the qualities of Japanese universities and foreign counties’ universities. Furthermore, that gap will lead to big gap between Japanese competitions and foreign countries’ competition and finally many Japanese companies will lose other foreign companies. Therefore, the present Japanese universities’ entrance season will be very big harm for Japan. However, If Japanese universities change the season of the entrance in April into in fall, Japanese universities are able to cope with globalization easily because many countries’ universities take entrance in fall. After plan, it is easy for foreign countries’ students to go to Japanese universities because university entrance season is same and so foreign countries’ students don’t worry about Japanese universities’ schedule. Therefore, the number of students studying abroad in Japan will increase and Japanese universities can get more foreign countries’ excellent students easily. And also, Japanese universities can make more relationship with foreign universities on the points of studies and education. In short, Japanese universities can do cooperative studies with foreign educational institutions more easily. It is very big merits for Japanese universities because they can get foreign various knowledge and skills.
Second, we want to explain merits for universities. First, Japanese students can use half gap year effectively. Half gap year is between universities’ entrance examination and universities’ entrance. Students can get social experience in half gap year. For example, by doing internship or volunteer activities students get social experience. We want to explain why half gap year is important on such timing. Many students study very hard for entrance examination. Therefore many students are lack of time that students think why they study at university or why they want to study at university and students confirm what want to do in the future. It is very bad situation because many university students are at a loss what is the things they want to do and why they study at university and their motivation decreases and finally they stop studying and going to university. However, after plan, students get half gap year and can think enough what they want to do at university, what they want to do after university and why they enter the university by spending half gap year and doing internship or volunteer activities. For example, according to a Japan working holiday association, in British twenty percent students who don’t use half gap year leave school before graduating but student who use half gap year rate of leaving school before graduating school is only three percent. This is because many students who use half gap year make clear the aim of studying at university while think a state of world affairs and their major field. Second, companies require students who can think by themselves and act and have communication skill. Many students can get independency, ability to solve problem, and communication skill by doing volunteer activities or internship in half gap year. Therefore, for companies and students half gap year is good term. Third, students can improve their internationally-minded because after plan, there will be more foreign country students and many Japanese students have more chance to communicate with foreign country students and learn various culture and value.
For these reason, We support this topic.

At present, almost all of Japanese universities do an entrance ceremony in spring. In this time, we discuss about autumnal admission. Some people will say that Japanese university should introduce autumnal admission. Certainly, autumnal admission has some merits, but it is usual thing that all things have merit and demerit. So, most important thing is that if the thing has more merits than demerits.
For example, autumnal admission is useful for student studying abroad, because almost all of country’s universities do autumnal admission. It is convenient for Japanese university to interact with foreign universities.
Other example, autumnal admission has possibility to change Japanese company’s system of Simultaneous recruiting of new graduates.
Then, is it really that autumnal admission has more merits than demerits? We do not think so. We think autumnal admission has fatal demerits if Japanese university introduces it.
First, it gives rise to gap term for half year between graduation of high school and matriculation. Basically, graduation of high school is done in spring. So, autumnal admission gives rise to gap term for half year. To tell the truth, gap term is usual thing in foreign country. For example, in Britain, approximately eight percent of freshmen utilize gap term to experience versatile things such as volunteer, internship, studying abroad, and so on. However, utilizing gap term is voluntary in foreign country. Not all freshmen choose to utilize gap term. But, if Japanese university introduces autumnal admission, all freshmen are forced to choose to utilize gap term. It is big problem. Because, volunteer, internship, and studying abroad need a lot of money. Not all Japanese parents have abundant money to let their son or daughter do such things. Moreover, ordinary Japanese university students have long summer vacation and spring vacation. So, these are good chances which experience such things.
Second, autumnal admission do graduates fatal harm. If students get into university in autumn, their graduation is done in four years later autumn necessarily. But, in japan, specific examinations such as civil service examination or state examination are done in spring. So, people who want to be public servant, lawyer, doctor and so on are forced to wait for about half year between graduation and examination. In the meantime, they spend a lot of time in doing nothing like a “neet”. To the letter, they are not in education, employment or training. So, they have no productivity and they spend a lot of wasted times. Additionally, ordinary companies do employment examination in spring. Therefore, autumnal admission is inconvenient for not only specific jobs which need qualification, but also ordinary jobs.
Third, autumnal admission does foreign students who want to study in japan harm. Autumnal admission gets rid of gap term of a new school term between Japanese universities and those of foreign countries. Until now, this gap term is used to prepare for studying in japan by foreign students. If Japanese universities do autumnal admission, foreign student who want to study in japan lose preparation time. Generally, it is important for people to go abroad with no preparation. It complicates studying in japan. So, autumnal admission has danger to Japanese universities which decrease the number of foreign students studying in japan. Actuary, Japanese students also are damaged because they also have no time to prepare for studying abroad. So, autumnal admission does harm not only foreign students but also Japanese students. It put the cart before the horse.
In summary, autumnal admission has three fatal demerits. First, it gives rise to gap term between graduation of high school and entering of university. It can damage student’s parents because it needs a lot of money. Second, gap term between graduation of university and entering of company or examination of public servant, lawyer, doctor, and so on also do harm many graduated students, because, generally, employment or national examination is done in spring in japan. So, graduated students are forced to spend a lot of wasted time. Third, it removes gap term between Japanese universities and foreign universities. It is inconvenient to Japanese and foreign students who want to study abroad, because it robs them of time prepare for studying abroad. For these reasons, autumnal admission has less merit than demerit.
