その男は、地球上でもっともタフで、苛烈な訓練を経験し、幾度とない戦闘を潜り抜けてきた歴戦の海兵であった。
3年前、男は上官から「非戦闘民を攻撃せよ」との命令を下され、その上官を殴った。彼は真珠湾基地に停泊中の宇宙船に押し込まれ、火星―ユニオンエアロスペースコーポレーション（UAC）の拠点―に左遷されてしまった。UACは二つの惑星を股にかけた大企業で、放射能処理施設を火星および二つの衛星―フォボスとデイモス―に保持している。男はそんな遠く離れた地で、埃っぽい記録室の中で機密映像を眺めるだけの日々を送ることになった。
ここ4年程、軍―UACの一番のお得意様―は、フォボスとデイモスの設備を使って、極秘のプロジェクトを進めていた。それは、異次元空間を利用した宇宙航行に関する研究だった。これまでに、フォボスとデイモスの間の空間に穴をあけてつなぐことは成功しており、片方の穴にものを投げ込んでもう片方から出てくるのを観察するという実験が行われていた。だが最近、そのゲートが危険なほど不安定になってきたというのである。軍の「ボランティア」たちがそのゲートに入っていったが、彼らはみな消えうせてしまったり、戻ってきたにしてもひどい状態―イカれてしまったり、生きているものを片っ端から殴りつけたり、ついには突然体が爆発して死んでしまったりしたのだ。基地では吹っ飛んだ頭を体にくっつけて家へ送り返す作業に追われるようになった。軍の最新の報告書によれば、研究は些細な問題があるものの、すべて正常に管理されている、とのことだった。
数時間後、火星基地はフォボスからの奇妙なメッセージを受け取った。
「至急、軍の派遣を要請する。何かとてつもなく邪悪で危険なものが、ゲートから出てきた！コンピュータシステムは暴走している！」
そこから先は傍受できなかった。それからしばらくして、デイモスが突如、宇宙空間から完全に消滅してしまった。双方の衛星との連絡を取ろうとする試みも、すべて失敗に終わった。
男とその同僚―その時点で火星基地にいた唯一の軍隊―は、すぐにフォボスへと送り出された。男は、突入した部隊の退路を確保するため、基地周囲を警戒するよう任ぜられた。何時間かの間、男の通信機には戦闘の音が聞こえていた：発砲音、命令を叫ぶ男の声、悲鳴、骨をへし折られる音、そして最後には何も聞こえなくなった。部隊は全滅してしまったらしい。

You have entered deeply into the infested starport.
But something is wrong. The monsters have brought
their own reality with them, and the starport's
technology is being subverted by their presence.
Ahead, you see an outpost of hell, a fortified zone.
If you can get past it, you can penetrate into the
haunted heart of the starbase and find the controlling
switch which holds earth’s population hostage.

punk thought he could turn hell into a
personal amusement park, and make earth

Well that half-robot freak show didn't
know who was coming to the fair. There's
nothing like a shooting gallery full of
hellspawn to get the blood pumping...
Now the walls of the demon's labyrinth
echo with the sound of his metallic limbs
hitting the floor. His death moan gurgles
out through the mess you left of his face.

once again gulped it down. With their
high turnover, it must be hard for poor
old uac to buy corporate health insurance
nowadays..
Ahead lies the military complex, now
swarming with diseased horrors hot to get
their teeth into you. With luck, the
complex still has some warlike ordnance
laying around.

A blue light begins to glow inside the
ruined skull of the demon-spitter.

As you step off the transport, you hear the stomp of a cyberdemon's iron shoe.

The gatekeeper's evil face is splattered
all over the place. As its tattered corpse
collapses, an inverted gate forms and
sucks down the shards of the last
prototype accelerator, not to mention the
few remaining demons. You're done. Hell
has gone back to pounding bad dead folks
instead of good live ones. Remember to
tell your grandkids to put a rocket
launcher in your coffin. If you go to hell
when you die, you'll need it for some
final cleaning-up ...

死体はボロボロに潰れ、裏返されたゲートが、わずかに残った悪魔と最後のアクセレイター試作機の破片を飲み干した。

"Experiments," with those monsters
infesting that dreadful place. You are
an experiment as well, so who cares?
There weren't any ships inside the
outpost. The only section that might
have one is the military labs. The
very place you got your strength
from. Damned AGM scientists.
This nightmare is too much. You
steo through the massive doors of
the military labs.
There could be a way to escape in there.
君は手際よく、問題の前哨基地から脱出できた。だが、いまだこの岩場で足止めを食っている。
AGMは相変わらず、奴らの"実験"で手一杯に違いない。あの化け物どもが、恐怖の場所になり果てた基地を荒らしまわっているのだ。

The teleporter is set for a facility
called "Double Impact," which is a
ridiculous name. Who cares? All
you need is a working ship.
You drop all your weapons on
the ground and step on the platform,
reintegrating on Double Impact.

You reach an evac center with
hundreds of civilians waiting for an
extraction. You find the marine captain
which informs you the situation:
There is a huge portal at downtown
Los Angeles spawning a torrent of demons.
Washington will authorize a full-scale
nuclear assault if we don't secure
the city in the following days.
The UAC marines are facing trouble to
approach the portal. Seems like huge armies
attracts the attention of the hellspawn.
The captain asks you to take all the ammo you
can, and try to breach their lines, and secure
the portal. He also sends a few marines
to accompain you.
君は、数百人もの市民が救出を待つ避難所へたどり着いた。
海兵隊の隊長によると、ロサンゼルスの下町に悪魔の軍勢を吐き出し続ける
巨大なポータルがあるという。
もし海兵隊がここ数日でロサンゼルスを救出できなければ、

different part of the world. But you
hear human voices across the door! Maybe
they are friends? Maybe you should
check it out!

You reach the center of Los Angels.
The place is being corrupted by the presence
of the portal, and now boiling hellish
blood covers the streets.
The US air force have been carpet bombing
the city for days, but probably there are
lots of demons around. Proceed with caution.
Locate and secure the portal at
the UAC headquarters. Clear all hostiles
close to it, then call in reinforcements.
君は、ロサンゼルスの中心へとたどり着いた。
そこはポータルの存在によって崩壊し、
煮えたぎる地獄の血が通りにあふれている。
アメリカ空軍はこの街を何日も絨毯爆撃しているようだが、
まだ相当多くのデーモンがいるようだ。気は抜くな。
UAC本社にあるテレポータを探し出し、制圧するんだ。
周囲の敵を残らず掃討し、その後援軍要請を送れ。
The entire UAC's building was turned
into a direct portal to hell, and guarded
by a giant monster. But you sucessfully take out
the guardian all by yourself, then you call
in the cavalry.
As the reinforcements arrive, they soon notice
that nothing can be done from this side to close
the portal, so the high command gives an order
to invade hell with all forces aviable. Followed
by an entire platoon of UAC marines, supported
by vehicles and aircraft, you enter the portal.

だが、君はその盾をたった一人で粉砕し、手はず通りに機甲部隊を呼び寄せた。
援軍が到着したが、すぐにポータルのこちら側からは地獄を攻撃する術がないことが判明した。
そこで、司令は全戦力を投入し、地獄に直接攻め入る指示を下した。
UAC海兵隊および機甲部隊、航空部隊の全軍を率いて、君は地獄に突入した。

You sneak into the castle foothold and climb
the giant tower. After you kill the giant cyberdemon
guardian, you cross the bridge and reach the upper part
of hell. The army is left behind at the foothold fighting
against enemy reinforcement. You proceed alone, as a lonely
marine would draw much less attention from the demons. As
they would focus all their forces on fighting the marine army,
setting up a camp near the portal.
君は地獄の城へ忍び込み、高い塔を上っていった。
塔を護衛していた巨大なサイバーデーモンを殺し、橋を渡り、ついに地獄の上層へとたどり着いた。
こちらの軍はまだ、城の下で敵の増援と戦っている。
君はデーモンの軍勢に感づかれないように、あえて単身で乗り込んでいったのだ。
おそらく、奴らは当分、ポータルの近くに陣取る海兵隊の相手をするのに夢中になるだろう。

As you approach a giant demon city, you
receive a message from command telling you that the
army is retreating from the tower's foothold. Seems
like they sufferend thousands of casualities and got
hundreds of marines captured or missing in action.
They decided to fall back to earth, and use the portal
to funnel down the demon invasion, and keep killing them
just as they step out of the portal.
Seems like you are the last marine deployed in hell.
But seems like the high command got you right where
they wanted. They are sure that a single marine wandering
beyond their lines will not draw any big attention.
So they send you coordinates of where they believe to be
the source of the demonic armies. You should head
to this position at north, and investigates.
君が悪魔の大都市に到着したころ、司令部から通信が入った。
塔の下で防戦していた軍団が撤退するとのことだった。どうやら、
軍団は相当の犠牲者を出し、さらに数百人の海兵隊員が捕獲されたり行方不明になったりしたようだ。
彼らは地球に退き、悪魔の軍勢を誘い込んでポータルの手前で迎撃することにしたのだ。
君はもはや地獄に残された最後の海兵だ。
だが、司令は君に進軍を続けさせるつもりらしい。
