Overview
- Kittie is one of the sub-characters in this game.
- He looks like a black cat (?). However, it's unknown whether he's actually a cat as there is no explanation in the game.
- On the other hand, there are several descriptions that hint he is a cat, such as his preference for eating Tuna fish and the phrase "Mew mew! I'm hungry!" written on the wall of the room where he first appears in Science Level (mew is the sound a cat makes).
- He seems to always be hungry and comes at an incredible speed when he finds something edible.
- Humans are also prey, but he prefers fish even more and will prioritize eating them.
- On the other hand, it seems he can only recognize things that are moving, and if a target stands still, he will simply pass by.
- He constantly emits a grating noise, and you can sense his approach by listening to it.
- His behavior is similar to that of Doggos in AEwVS, and he can be said to be a character who fulfills a similar role.
- He continues to appear in the remastered version, but it is rare that his appearance, sound, and behavior have not been changed at all. He is the only character for whom this is the case. (*1)
- He appears in levels from Language Level onwards.
Behavior
- He usually roams the school at high speed while emitting a grating noise, and when he finds you moving, he rushes towards you at a tremendous speed. Since he comes at you from the darkness at high speed with that appearance, you will definitely be scared the first time you see him. Furthermore, his pursuit speed at this time is abnormally fast (even faster than Emily's running speed), so if you are chased, you will almost certainly not be able to outrun him.
- Right after he catches up to you, he will just follow you and do nothing, but after a short while, he will open his mouth wide and bite you to death. Given his pursuit speed, you can't escape, so this chain of events is confirmed the moment he starts chasing you.
- However, you are not without countermeasures; if you hold the Tuna fish item in your hand (hover your cursor over it), it will take your place. It's a good idea to always keep one as a safeguard in the levels where he appears. If the Tuna fish takes your place, he will stop in that spot for a certain amount of time, probably to eat it, and then start roaming again. This time depends on the selected difficulty.
- However, if you have multiple Tuna fish, be careful because he will take all of them, not just the one you are holding. The time he stops does not increase if you give him more than one, so it is just a waste. It's a good idea to only carry one or to drop all but one immediately if he finds you.
- Note that even if you have a Tuna fish, you will be bitten to death normally if you are not holding it in your hand. In versions before alpha 0.0.8, it was effective just by having it, but this was changed to the current specification from beta 0.1.0.
- Unlike Doggos, his roaming speed is very fast, so you will encounter him quite frequently. Moreover, because of the troublesome characteristics mentioned later, it is not uncommon to be stopped multiple times or driven into a corner.
- He only chases you when he finds you moving, so if you stand still, you will not be chased even if you are in his line of sight. For this reason, it is recommended that you stop moving immediately when you hear the noise and resume moving only after he has gone somewhere else.
- However, unlike Doggos, once he finds you, he will not lose sight of you even if you stop moving. In addition, just like the other characters, he has a very long-distance line of sight in all directions, so it's a common occurrence for him to find you from a very long distance where you can't see or hear him, and you only realize he's chasing you when it's too late. If you are found, your death is confirmed unless you have a Tuna fish, so be sure to always have one.
- Because he has infinite line of sight, the risk of him finding you is very high in long corridors without any cover. It is somewhat unavoidable, but you should try to avoid long corridors as much as possible. If you encounter him in a long corridor, there is a high possibility that you are still in his line of sight even if you can no longer hear the noise, so it would be better to resume moving after a while has passed since the noise disappeared.
- He is not in the level at the beginning and only appears after a certain amount of time has passed since Emily made a mistake on a problem.
- This time depends on the difficulty; in Boi mode, he appears after a considerable amount of time has passed, while in Brainiac mode, he appears the moment a mistake is made.
- For this reason, you can reduce the risk of being found by completing the exploration of long corridors before he appears. Since the number of Tuna Fish is limited, you should make effective use of the time before he appears. In Brainiac mode, there's nothing you can do but try your best.
- A strange characteristic of his is that he often gets stuck, and you can frequently see him stuck, especially in Music Level and Science Level.
- In the former, he often gets stuck on the desks in the classrooms, and in the latter, he is guaranteed to get stuck in the room where he first appears.
- If he gets stuck, he loses his function as a threat, which makes the game much easier. However, be careful because in the former case, he will get unstuck if he sees you moving, and in the latter case, he will get unstuck if you open the door to that room.
