**概要

1428年頃に守護である畠山満慶が原型となる砦を建築、その後増築が重ねられた
1576年に上杉謙信に攻められる。1年に渡り持ちこたえたが、家臣団の分裂を原因として翌年9/13に開城
謙信の死後は織田信長の領地となり城代として菅屋長頼が入る
後に交代で前田利家が入ったが、拠点を小丸山城に移し子の前田利政が入城。1598年に廃城
