ここでは、英文の文法的誤りを見つけさせる問題の解法について解説していく。
形式としては、
・英文中に下線部を4本くらい設置し、誤りを1つ選ばせる（難関私立でよくあるが、「誤りがない（NO ERROR）」という選択肢が加わると難易度が上がる）
・英文を4つくらい提示し、誤りを含む文を1つ選ばせる（誤文選択）
などさまざまだ。
ここでは、中央大学総合政策学部2022年の問題を用いて、解法の提示を行っていく。中学校レベルの文法知識で解ける問題もあるので、臆することなく取り組んでほしい。

) are impressive considering the size of the zoo.
▶「The variety」という単数の主語に対して「are」はおかしい。正しくは「is」。主語の単複と動詞の対応という、最頻出パターンです。しかも出てきた動詞はbe動詞。びっくりするくらい簡単な、中学校1年生レベルの文法が問われてしまいました。
（間違いやすい選択肢）
c. The people ( who live on that island ) are very welcoming
to anyone ( who goes there to experience their culture ).
▶「welcome」の語法がなんとなく違うのでは、とこの選択肢を選んだ受験生も多かったようです。また、veryがついているのが理解できなかった人もいたかもしれませんね。ですが、問題ありません。他動詞welcome「歓迎する」が進行形になったと解釈したいところですが、veryがついていることに注目してください。この場合、welcomingという現在分詞が形容詞化したものと考える必要があります。動詞が形容詞化してしまったことで、この「very
welcoming」はC（補語）になり、ここで文型が終わりますから、前置詞を置かざるを得なくなります。こういった事情からこの英文は間違っていないことになります。

▶「〜なときから…していた」という現在完了の文。完了形を使うとき、起点を表す表現は「from」ではなく「since」でなければなりません。中学校3年生で習う現在完了の基本が分かっていれば正解できてしまいます。

a. All I wanted to do
was watching TV at home, but my friends insisted on
going out to eat somewhere.
▶「All you have to do is (to) 原形」という典型表現が聞かれました。watchingではなく「(to)
watch」に変えなければなりません。それ以前に、「これからすること」を表すときは動名詞ではなく不定詞を使うのが基本ですから、このingには違和感がありますよね。熟語の問題と捉えてもいいですが、抽象化すれば、不定詞と動名詞の使い分けが問われていると言えます。

b. I have always wondered,
( during walking around Prague ), what is behind the
curtained windows of the romantic buildings.
▶「during＋純粋な名詞」（例 during the
summer）はOKですが、「during＋動名詞」はNG、という基本文法事項を聞いています。直すなら接続詞「while」です。（「while I am
walking 〜」を分詞構文化したもの）duringという前置詞の語法が問われた問題でした。

c. By using smartphones for
hours a day, people's eyes, especially that of
children, can be damaged from the blue light.
▶「people's eyes」と「that of
children」が対応していることは分かるでしょう。ならば、「that」は「目」を指すわけですが、「eyes」という複数形を受けるならば「those」に直すべきです。代名詞の語法が問われました。
（間違いやすい選択肢）
a. After several attempts to get the car started, / I gave up and decided to
have(V) it(O) taken(C) in for repairs.
▶「車を動かすために色々試したが、結局諦めて修理に持っていってもらうことにした」と言いたい文なのは分かりますね。「持っていってもらう」を英語にする際、「have
it(＝the car)
taken」は問題ありませんが、直後の前置詞inが浮いてしまいます。しかし、前置詞は副詞の用法を掛け持ちしていることが多く、このinを「中に」と解釈することもできそうです。何の中に持っていかれたのかは明示されていませんが、外にあった車をどこかの屋内に移動させようとしたのでしょう。
上記の中央大の問題はいかがでしたか？
決してマニアックな語法が問われているということはありませんでした。5問のうち2問は中学レベル、残りの3問は高校レベルの英文法となっており、普通に勉強していれば1度や2度は出会う機会のある語法たちが問われました。それなのに実際、間違う人が続出するように問題はつくられています。それはなぜでしょうか？
それは、なんらかの方法で文を複雑化しているからです。上記の問題を例に出せば、1.は「The variety are...」と書かれていればめちゃくちゃ簡単に誤りだと気付けるでしょうし、2.に関しても、Fromを文頭なんかに置かず「has been ... from ...」と書いていればもう少しわかりやすかったのではないでしょうか。これをわかりにくい文にして難度を上げるのが、出題者（大学教授）の仕事だとも言えます。
そこで、正誤問題の方針がある程度見えてきました。それはすなわち、
いつも通り丁寧に構造分析し、単純化して捉える
ということです。
そして、あとは文法や語法の基本知識をいかに駆使できるかです。ここでのキーワードは「発見」です。そして、発見するためには、基本的な文法や語法に対する知識を曖昧ではなくクリアなものにしておくことが大切です。
さらには、こういう問題で頻出ポイントになりやすい文法や語法にどんなものがあるかを、問題を沢山こなしていく中で整理していきましょう。一応、参考までに以下にまとめておきますが、実際には皆さんが過去問を解く中で「このパターンはよく出るな」と体感していくことが大切です。
・主語の単複と動詞の対応（特に、主語が長い場合、主語と動詞の間に挿入句が入る場合、関係詞が介在する場合は複雑化する。）
・不定詞と動名詞の使い分け
・現在分詞と過去分詞の使い分け
・関係詞後方の完全・不完全
・同型反復（andで繋がれた2つのものの形が異なるなど）
・名詞の可算・不可算や単複
・動詞の語法（自動詞・他動詞、受け身の正否など）
・形容詞・副詞の語法（mostやalmostの語法は頻出）
・前置詞の語法（熟語を覚えていれば正解できる単純なものも多い）
・時制や助動詞の語法（時・条件の副詞節中のwillなど）
・代名詞の語法
・冠詞の有無
ぱっと思いつくだけでもこれだけあがりました。こういうことを意識し、アンテナを貼っておくことで、「発見」できるようになります。数学で、図形の問題を解きながらなんの定理が使えるかを考えるのと似ていますね。
以下の各英文の誤っている箇所を直せ。

いかがでしたか。簡単とは思わないかもしれませんが、十分に対策は立てられます。よく出るものにアンテナを貼っておけば「発見」できること。あとは、長い一文を冷静に分析し、できれば意味もとっていく、という通常通りの作業をスピーディーにこなしていくこと。これが大切です。あとは普段から語法に興味をもち、頻繁に辞書を引くことですね。「この文ってなんで文法的に成り立つんだろう？おかしくない？」みたいな疑問を沢山持ち、調べていくことです。もちろん他科目とのバランスの問題もあるでしょうから、あくまで「マニア」にならない程度に、対策を講じていってくださいね。
