レーシーは原始的な荒野や地上の力のある地域を守る知的な植物クリーチャーである。元々は強力なフェイによって作られたが、始原魔法の熟練した実践者（典型的にはドルイド）が、自然の精神と地元の植生から慎重に育てられ作られた身体を組み合わせることによって現れる。レーシーを作るために必要な儀式や材料は、レーシーの種類によって異なる。典型的には、アーボリアルの森、ドルイドの円環、妖精の輪、大きな自然の驚異など、非常に自然に重要な領域でその生命を授かる。
