テングはもともとティエン＝シア大陸出身の順応性のある人々だが、旅を通してゴラリオン全土に広がった。世界中に広がった種族であるテングは、故郷のクワンライを除き、ほとんどの場合他の種族が多数を占める王国や共同体の中にいる。その結果、テングは他のテングだけでなく、他の少数派の種族の緊密な社会集団に集まり、鳥が巣のために装身具を集めるように、他の文化から言葉や習慣を集めることを好む。

テングは人型生物だが、非常に独特な鳥に似た特徴を持ち、多くの人が人間よりもカラスに似ていると言うだろう。彼らは強くて太いくちばしと、腕と脚の先に鋭い爪を持っている。テングの体の大部分は、暗灰色や暗青色から光沢のある黒までさまざまな色の小さな羽で覆われており、明るい色は珍しいが前代未聞というわけでもない。多くの鳥類と同様、テングは骨が空洞で、そのサイズの他の人型生物よりもはるかに軽量だ。一部のテングは飛行できる翼さえ持っている。
